CURRICULUM VITAE

JJ Hermes
I am a Hubble Fellow based at the University of North Carolina, focused on high-precision studies of white dwarf stars that pulsate or are in binaries. Lately I have focused on observing variable white dwarfs with the Kepler space telescope; for more information, visit k2wd.org.

I completed my PhD at the University of Texas at Austin in August 2013, where I was fortunate to spend more than 220 nights at the McDonald Observatory. More details about my research can be found from my observer profile, as well as a 30-minute interview I did with KRTS, the NPR affiliate for far west Texas based in Marfa; the interview can be streamed online.

I have also worked as a journalist, serving as editor-in-chief of The Daily Texan from June 2006 to May 2007 and for a year as a reporter for The Chronicle of Higher Education in Washington, D.C. I maintain a Web site of primary documents I have collected over the years at www.fretna.org.
